Chef Mimi — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 July 2026

Chef Mimi ("the app," "we," "us") is a voice-first cooking assistant for iPhone. This policy explains what data the app handles and why. We built the app to collect as little as possible.

No account, no personal details

Chef Mimi has no sign-up or login. We do not ask for or collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, photos, or any other personal identifying information.

Your permission comes first

Chef Mimi relies on a third-party AI service, DeepSeek, to generate its cooking replies. The first time you use the app, it clearly explains this and asks for your permission before any of your requests are sent. If you do not agree, no request text leaves your device. You can read this policy at any time from the app's About screen.

Microphone and speech

When you hold the button to talk, the app listens through your microphone so it can understand your cooking questions. On supported iPhones this speech-to-text conversion happens on your device using Apple's speech recognition. Your microphone audio is never recorded, stored, or uploaded, and never leaves your device. Only the resulting text of what you asked is sent onward so the assistant can reply.

What is sent, and to whom

To answer you, the text of your request is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our server (hosted on Google Cloud), which relays it to our AI provider, DeepSeek (operated by Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Co., Ltd., based in China), to generate a cooking response. The reply is sent back to your phone and spoken aloud by an on-device voice. We do not use this content to build a profile of you, and we do not sell it.

Anonymous device identifier

The app itself generates a random identifier on your device the first time it runs (it is not obtained from Apple, your Apple ID, or any third-party SDK) and includes it with requests to our server. Its only purpose is to prevent abuse and apply fair-use rate limits. It is not linked to your Apple ID or your identity, is never shared with DeepSeek, and it is discarded if you delete and reinstall the app.

Data stored on your device

Recipes, your cooking history, and app settings (such as your chosen voice) are stored only on your iPhone. They are not uploaded to us. Deleting the app removes them.

How your data is protected when it is shared

We confirm that we share your data only with third parties that are contractually required to protect it to the same or equal standard described in this policy — to process it solely to provide their service to us, and not to use it for their own advertising or to build a profile of you. Within that requirement, we also share as little as possible:

Each provider also operates under its own published privacy policy (linked below). DeepSeek states that, by default, it does not use paid API request data to train its models; it may use de-identified inputs to a minimal extent to help improve its services, and it offers an opt-out. That minimal service-improvement is the only secondary use permitted — never advertising, never profiling.

Third parties who process data on our behalf

No tracking, no ads, no analytics

Chef Mimi contains no advertising, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and does not track you across other apps or websites.

Children

Chef Mimi is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
